The "Morgan" Dunes

Friday and Saturday we went out to the middle of nowhere to camp. It was awesome. I decided that the desert is beautiful in its own way. I don't think I will ever say that sage brush itself is beautiful, but I think that the miles and miles of sand, with the mountains in the background and the lonely eagles soaring above is so fabulous. Its as if the environment is meant to help you think. Its so different from the moist swamps and towering tree's of the east. Anyway, we got there Thursday afternoon, and jumped off dunes until dark. Ate chili around the fire, and then settled into the tent for the night. I could not go to sleep. Around two in the morning, I was thoroughly disgusted with myself, and got up to find the mouthwash and my retainer in the back of the van. When I shut the trunk, I looked up, and discovered more stars than I had ever seen before. Millions, and millions, they took my breath away. Or maybe it was just the cold air. The next morning we rode the Odette's four wheelers and ate breakfast surprise. Later that afternoon we went in search of the Baker Hot springs, and knew we were in the right spot when we found a large group of people in their underwear or swimming suits (some of both) OR in beanies, tie died t-shirts and brown, green, and grey shorts. We decided not to go swimming, and went to Topaz mountain instead. All of us found some of the tiny clear stones, and then on the way home we stopped and hiked up to some hollow volcanic rock on the side of a mountain.

copy of family spring letter

Dear friends and loved ones,
We know that this may be an unusual time to receive a family letter, but we didn’t want to lose track of everyone, so we decided to send out something hoping to stay connected. So, even though it snowed last night, happy springtime!
This year has been full of transitions for all of us. We moved to Utah in the summer so David could start teaching at BYU. This is something that we thought that we would never do, but despite the challenges, we have enjoyed a lot of things about being here and feel blessed to be so close to both of our families. We bought a house in Provo that is very close to Rock Canyon, which we love. It needs a lot of changes, so we have been remodeling it before we move in.
Atticus is attending a charter school in Provo with his brothers. He has adjusted very well to living in Utah and going to school. He especially likes taking karate and playing with his friends. He was Scrooge in his 2nd grade Christmas play, and memorized all his lines, which he spoke with an adorable English accent. Atticus is also on a Provo soccer team, and really likes playing soccer.
Satchel has also adjusted well to living in Utah, and has made many new friends. He has a new understanding of the beauty of recess and likes to play basketball, kickball and foursquare. He had a chance to attend a writing workshop with one of his favorite authors, Brandon Mull, and is now consumed with writing multiple stories for an online writing competition.
Elias has taken advantage of attending a small school and decided to try out for the basketball team and made it. It was very fun watching those games, and now he has made the school soccer team, so we get to watch those games too. He also got a new mtn. bike, and has been riding it on the shoreline trail, which is close to our house.
Zoe is going to Timpview H.S. She is taking classes that the counselor called ’demanding’ and likes most of them. She also ran on the cross-country team in the fall, is captain of the debate team, and is now trying to decide what classes to take junior year. She especially loved skiing at Sundance and Alta, as did her brothers.
I spend mostly every day running kids to school and their other activites, but also working on the house. David is enjoying working at BYU, and helps out on the house when he has time. We had a blast skiing with our kids this year, and have had some great hikes here in the mountains.
We would love to hear from you and soon we can welcome visitors at our house in Provo. Call us or email, especially if you come to town! copenman37@hotmail.com or (801)-373-9698
Love to all, Morgans
